Between fire and water: towards integrated fire management in northwestern Europe

Lambrechts, Hugo A.

Summary

Wildfires are becoming more common in Northwestern Europe due to climate change, but many countries in this region are not yet well prepared. My PhD research explores how we can better manage fire in the landscape to reduce risks and protect people and nature. I looked at different approaches to wildfire prevention, land management, and cooperation between organisations like fire services, nature managers, and policymakers. By combining interviews, case studies, and international insights, I developed practical recommendations for more integrated and proactive wildfire management. This work helps lay the foundation for safer and more resilient landscapes in a changing climate.
