Summary
Circular agriculture aims for minimal losses of nutrients. For livestock farming, this means among other things that manure must be re-used as efficient as possible. Animal housings systems with separation of urine and feces at the source or with daily removal of manure from the barn have perspective, since ammonia and methane emissions from these barns are low and the manure is suitable for further valorization. In this report, different innovative animal housing systems are described for dairy cows, pigs and calves. Besides, manure samples were taken from 13 dairy farms, 4 pig farms and 4 calve farms. These manure samples were analyzes and it was determined whether the manure products meet the criteria for artificial fertilizer (RENURE), organic fertilizer or soil improver. Based on the results it can be concluded that multiple innovative animal housing systems can produce valuable manure products, however, sometimes further processing of the products is necessary or additional research is required to optimize the animal housing systems even more.
