Research into how produce changes after harvest enables the development of techniques to preserve quality. Preventing loss of quality

Fruit grower Ferry Van Leeuw of Van Haaften Fruit in Wadenoijen asked postharvest technology scientist Eelke Westra for advice on preventing apples from becoming soft during storage. Eelke explains that the storage conditions must be optimally tuned to the product and that the oxygen level adapted so as to slow down ripening.
