How to prevent food waste?
The amount of good food that is wasted in The Netherlands adds up to billions of euros per year. Solutions for reducing food waste are within easy reach. Wageningen University & Research has committed itself to reducing food waste by 50% in 2030. The biggest food waster in The Netherlands is the consumer. The average Dutch consumer throws away around 34 kg of good food at home every year. This is not just a waste of money, it is especially a waste of valuable resources that were needed to produce and transport the food.
