María Carla Piazzon de Haro (in short, Carla Piazzon ;-)), obtained her PhD (cum laude) at the University of Santiago de Compostela in October 2010, entitled: Interactions between the scuticociliate parasite Philasterides dicentrarchi (Ciliophora: Scuticociliatia) and the immune system of turbot, Psetta maxima (L.). Carla always had an interest in the immune system of fish. Already during her master she worked on the “Effect of diets supplemented with glucan and vitamin C on the immune system of turbot (Psetta maxima L.) and its resistance to pathogens”. Some of the results from her research are being tested for application in turbot aquaculture practice.
