Immunomodulation by food and feed

In the research theme immune modulation by food and feed, we have several projects that focus on the immunomodulatory effects of food and feed-components, as well as mucosal immunology projects, that focus on the immune function in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tract.

We study these components in relation to immunity to infection, mucosal immune tolerance, gastrointestinal health and effects on the mucosal barrier. We also investigate an effects of food processing on immunomodulatory properties of its’ compounds. We further want to further understand the link between the mucosal immune -system and the gut microbiota and microbiota-derived metabolites, as well as direct and effects of fibers and poly- and oligo-saccharides. Finally, we are developing novel intestinal models that can be used to further study the effects of food and feed components on the immune system in the gastrointestinal tract.
