Tim Wijgerde

I am a marine biologist and entrepreneur with a background in molecular biology. I am interested in the ecophysiology of reef-building corals and sponges, more specifically how (a)biotic factors control growth rates, photosynthesis and respiration. In this respect, I primarily rely on mesocosms for controlled laboratory experiments.

I also have my own consulting company, Coral Publications, with clients such as Philips Lighting, Rotterdam Zoo and DyMiCo Filter BV.

At Marine Animal Ecology, my aim is to set up a research line which integrates ex situ lab work with in situ field experiments. Within the
ERA-NET project BiogenInk, I am tasked with assisting in setting up field
experiments to optimise mariculture of collagen sponges such as Chondrosia reniformis.
