CSPS Annual Day

What drives you in your work? What are you curious about? And what do you consider the beauty and value of it?

In our daily work as researchers and lecturers we are often confronted with the need to account for our activities and prove our ‘excellence’. Increasingly, measures and criteria have been put into place that do necessarily reflect our daily realities, let alone the reasons why we got involved in science in the first place.

On Thursday May 16th, 2019 we invite all members of CSPS to join us for an open dialogue on what quality of research and teaching entails for us and how we could translate this into a strategy for CSPS.

The day is inspired by two recent happenings. One is the farewell speech of Henk Molenaar of NWO in which he suggested to get rid of ‘excellence’ as a criteria for quality of research. Instead he proposed 4 alternative criteria: wonder (‘verwondering’), beauty (‘schoonheid’), meaning (‘zingeving’) and value creation (‘waardecreatie’). The other happening is the fact that Ghent University has recently stated that they no longer wish to participate in the ranking of people and the intense competition and want to become a place where “talent feels valued and nurtured”. Along these lines we want to explore our underlying values and what scientific quality means for us as members of CSPS.

The day will be hosted at the Blaauwe Kamer, a beautiful riverside location within biking distance of Wageningen. An interactive programme with small group discussions, a world cafe and artistic contributions will keep you energized throughout the day. Expect inspiring conversations with colleagues, nice food and drinks, creativity and laughter. Make sure you are there!

Please register before April 15, via the registration button on this page.
