Analysis of water saving strategies in the tourist sector in the Mediterranean
The Environmental Systems Analysis Group provides the possibility for students to do their thesis in collaboration with our group. This is one of many possible thesis subjects. Please feel free to contact Maria Reyes Peres MSc PhD (right) for more information.
The Watershift project intends to understand how to engage companies of the Mediterranean basin into the transformation of their business models towards more sustainable and less environmentally impactful practices, especially on water resource uses. Watershift considers the transformation will occur if these two main assumptions are met: 1) the existence of sustainable business models and proof of its technical and economic feasibility ; 2) the activation of regulatory and financial levers in order to arouse model’s transformation. The main idea is to analyze tourism sector practices around water resources use and identify practical solutions and sustainable business models.
This thesis project entails 1) Identify the sub-sectors that will become the target of the analysis; 2)Identify sustainable practices of local water use from the Tourism sector, 3) Prioritize the identified sustainable practices for water use from the Tourism sector and 4) Cost/benefit analysis of the selected practices. The main output would be the development of specific guidelines for sustainable water use practices for the tourism sector in the Mediterranean area.
