The morphologically striking nematode Bunonema richtersi Jägerskiöld, 1905 belongs to the order Rhabditida and the family Bunonematidae. The genus Bunonema Jägerskiöld, 1905 includes about 15 described species and occurs world-wide inhabiting compost, humus and particularly mosses. Bunonema richtersi belongs to the more common species within this genus. It has been found in Europe, Africa, North America and Oceania. The small body has an offset wide lip region with six long and several smaller setose appendages. The right side of the body is ornamented with 16 to 24 pairs of well separated strongly protruding warts (or fins), 6-8 pairs in the pharynx region and 2 to 4 unpaired warts in the rectal rgeion. Each wart includes 4 to 5 inner rods. The left body side includes 5 longitudinal ridges. Males are unknown for this species.
