Hemicycliophora thienemanni
The genus Hemicyclophora was established by de Man in 1921. The name refers to the strongly curved spicules, present in the males of a large number of described species. In the past males with arcuate spicules were placed in the genus Loofia. All Hemicycliophora species show a body cuticle plus a sheath cuticle, visible as a typical double cuticle layer. Hemicycliophora thienemanni, a species described by Schneider in 1925, is the most widely distributed Hemicycliophora species of the Netherlands. It is not only known from diverse range of terrestrial habitats, but also found aquatic. The males of this species are very rare.
