Project

Multiverse in me

This project aims at creating learning activities within the first year of the BSc programme Plant Sciences with the goal to provide students more insight into the ‘why’ of skills education through the visualisation of ‘possible selves’. These visualisations of personal futures can contribute to students’ abilities to identify discrepancies between their current state and their goals.

Background

At the start of their studies, students often lack an overview of what could be expected from them in the future. This makes it difficult for them to formulate their own learning goals and make choices in skills they want to develop.

Project description

Within this project, we aim to develop a set of 3 learning activities for beginning students in the introductory course of the BSc Plant Sciences. The aim of the activities is to provide students with an understanding of the 'why' of developing skills. To achieve this, we want to challenge students to create different future scenarios ("future selves") with a focus on professional identity and related skills. These future selves will consist of individualized stories with characteristics of existing profiles of professionals in the field and matching skills. Based on their future selves, students can formulate (with guidance) learning requirements and incorporate these into a personal skills development plan.
