Project
Biogeographical seminars
Since 2018 Wageningen coordinates the organization of the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process. This is done in assignment of the European Commission, with a consortium of 6 partners. With the Natura 2000 Biogeographical Process the knowledge exchange around Natura 2000 and European conservation policy is paramount.
An important task is the organization of the biogeographical seminars in the six large biogeographical regions of Europe. In these conferences authorities, NGOs and stakeholders are present to discuss issues around Natura 2000. Besides the seminars, the consortium also organizes networking events, and communication around seminars and events (website, regular newsletters).
This project gives access to international knowledge and expertise on defining management targets and for Natura 2000. Further, we are closely involved in the development and roll-out of European conservation policy, the biodiversity strategy and the Nature Restoration Law. In this project we also look at how the Netherlands can better achieve its aims, on the basis of experiences and knowledge acquired in other countries.
