Living labs synthesis

Living labs are considered to hold potentially play a crucial role in the development of new approaches and methods for sustainability transitions. Such role may vary according to the specific setup and ambitions of the living lab How this works out exactly, and the variety of ways in which this happens is investigated.

Living labs are understood as collaborative platforms in which different actors from research, government, business and citizens work together in a real life context to address complex societal challenges. They are increasingly seen as an instrument to support sustainability transitions, such as transitions to a circular bio-based and climate smart society. This project reviews the viewpoint of involved actors how LL are contribute to the transition by on the one hand inventory the viewpoints the government, businesses and other partners on the issue of as well as an more in-depth analysis of the functioning of three LL. By doing so we perform a critical assessment of the idea and practice of living labs as such and the viewpoints of stakeholders on ‘upscaling’ mechanism or other ways in which LL are contributing to transition.
