Project

MainstreamBIO

In this project, services and online tools are being developed to support innovations in the field of implementing the bio-based economy on a small scale (farm, rural community). All this is based on specific questions from the field delivered from Multi-actor Innovation Platforms (MIPs) all over Europe, including the Netherlands.

In particular, the Dutch MIP will focus on better utilisation of regional residue streams in the cultivation of a number of arable and outdoor vegetable crops and grass from nature reserves and from roadsides, animal manure and residue streams from the human chain. It ties in with opportunities for local renewable energy production. The project develops knowledge on innovation and contributes to implementation of bio-based technology that can be used locally in processing residue streams into more high-quality products, natural fertilisers or customised soil improvers and renewable energy.
