Monitoring is crucial to learn from system innovations that potentially contribute to future-proof agriculture.
If we want to become less dependent on models with unreliable assumptions, extrapolation of data from other climate zones and anecdotal datasets to assess the impact of the agroforestry system innovation, we must start generating reliable data ourselves. This requires standardized and supported protocols for monitoring the performance of different agroforestry systems.
