Read here about the interesting research Dr Simone Haarbosch conducts on the societal challenges of the energy transition in the province of Overijssel, in the Netherlands.

My name is Simone Haarbosch and I am a new member of the PAP group since the beginning of January 2022.

Last year I graduated as a PhD at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland and now I am continuing my research here as a post-doc researcher at Wageningen University for two days a week. By being part of the NWO funded project MARET JUSTres, we further delve into societal challenges that arrive from the energy transition in the province of Overijssel.
The energy transition requires a responsible and active role of citizens according to the various national, regional and local climate agreements. But how do citizens consider their own role, and what do they consider as a just energy transition? This NWO funded project specifically focuses on energy justice in light of the new governance structure of the RES regions.
Under the supervision of Dr Tamara Metze-Burghouts, Dr Bas van Vliet and Dr Sanneke Kloppenburg, I am currently working on an explorative survey that will be spread soon to 1250 respondents in Overijssel about their perspective on ‘a just energy transition’. The results of this survey form the input for various deliberative sessions with citizens that will be held in Autumn 2022 in several places Overijssel.
It can be hard to understand the consequences of (energy) policies in practice, and what this means for citizens. I am very much looking forward to learn and further extent my knowledge in this field.
In case you are having any questions about the project or my expertise, please do not hesitate to write me a message!
