The programme of this Dies Natalis addressed the balance between an individual’s food choice, the interests of our society, and the challenges these present for science in Wageningen.
Wholesome food can contribute to a healthy life. The food choice of the consumers is sometimes determined by health; sometimes taste, convenience or price play a prominent role. But it is not only the consumer who is in command. Our society determines which choices the consumer can make, what is on sale, how much it costs and what is known about the health effects of food.
