Governance in transitions

The transition towards a circular and climate neutral society asks for a change in the agrobased sector: from the current linear production chains to circular production chains with a minimum of inputs and losses. This requires knowledge, insights and tools about behaviour, incentives for behaviour change as well as governance arrangements and business models to facilitate the transition process.

Abstract

This research focuses on behaviour, an essential element in the transition process of agrobased sector. The research aims to gain more insight into the behaviour of actors. With this, incentives can be chosen that realise the transition from the current linear production chains towards a circular and climate neutral society. We take various instruments into consideration: from policy to information to the development of new social norms. We also translate this into new business models. We do this based on what we learn from available theoretical concepts and a number of cases where the transition process to a circular food system is currently being initiated.
