Managing Delivery of Information and Innovation for Sustainable Agricultural Development

The Indonesian Centre for Agricultural Technology Assessment and Development (ICATAD) and the Agriculture Institute for Assessment Technology (AIATs) aim to develop their staff capacity to effectively enhance wide scale adoption of technologies developed and validated by research.

The adoption rate of technology packages observed is far too low (10%) and this tailor-made training will address the challenges and root causes identified by taking a multi-stakeholder approach to technology development and introduction of innovations.

Tailor-made training focus

The TMT focuses on:

  1. Demand-driven research. Application of a range of strategies to make agricultural research meet te demand of end-users (i.e. farmers and value chain). For the training in the Netherlands field visits are organised to show best practices of demand-driven research in the Netherlands.
  2. Best practices and models of information delivery on innovative technology. Enhancing the trainees’ understanding and practical skills in design and use of effective and up-to-date extension practices. This also covers differentiation of information packages for distinct target groups (e.g. male or female headed households, youth).
  3. Multi-stakholder collaboration. This is about designing the process of information management, starting with new ways to improve stakeholder collaboration between the parties involved from research, extension and the private sector. Several inspiring examples of public-private and research-extension collaborations are visited, like The Friesian’s involvement in the FDOV project co-financed by Friesland Campina.
  4. Action plan. In the training, the trainees spend quite some time on exploring the types of extension systems that are suitable in the context of the various regions in Indonesia. At the end of the training, they develop a feasible action plan to implement back on their jobs. These action plans are a kind of pilot studies including the implementation of new strategies for information delivery, improved collaboration with actual stakeholders and engaging with new ones. They also contain concrete tentative guidelines for the management of information and innovation delivery system of agricultural technology packages.
