Project
Circularity of Bioplastics
For many products in the current waste management system there is no good end-of-life solution. Wageningen University & Research (WUR) researches how biobased and/or industrially compostable materials can contribute to more circularity.
Background
In this PPP project we work with several companies to research how biobased and/or industrially compostable materials can contribute to more circularity. Specific cases have been selected where we expect that a biobased/compostable solution could a realistic alternative.
Currently we are researching alternatives for meat trays and coffee capsules. For these cases we create an overview of various more circular options. This concerns both existing solutions and possible near-future solutions. Both biobased/compostable and other materials are included. These alternatives are compared objectively, using an impact assessment. We take a broad view here: in addition to sustainability aspects: for example, we also take practical feasibility into account.
