Optimising supply chain efficiency of strawberries with a digital twin
July 3, 2023 - Project - Strawberries are delicious fruits, but also highly perishable after harvest. In Europe, an estimated 30% of all strawberries is lost or wasted along the supply chain or at the consumer. By using a digital twin, this project aims to maximise strawberry quality for the consumer, while reducing food losses, (energy) costs and greenhouse gas emissions. -
Escape (Erasmus+)
May 12, 2017 - Project - The ESCAPE project aims to develop an innovative training programme on marketing and business-related competences directed towards food technology students, and to evaluate the developed training programme via an experimentation phase in HEIs in three different European countries (France, Italy and the Netherlands). -
SPRINT
January 1, 2022 - Project - Farming systems in Europe rely strongly on the use of Plant Protection Products (PPPs) to secure profitability, yields, and safety in food production. The knowledge on the effects of the wide-scale use of PPPs on humans (and animals) as consumers and residents, and ecosystems is scarce and fragmented. -

Animal-free milk proteins
June 17, 2022 - Project - This program aims to produce milk proteins without cows. Instead, we will use yeast to create a sustainable and animal-free protein alternative with the same nutritional value and structure as in milk. We will also study how this novel protein source can be embedded in society in a responsible way. -
Role of visuals in public policy debates about CRISPR technology in Twitter (PhD project - Eduardo Rojas Padilla)
May 8, 2023 - Project - The project studies the role of visualizations in the Twitter debate about CRISPR-Cas technology to identify how different people and institutions across regions and languages form networks describing CRISPR-Cas technology with views and images. The goal of the study is to understand how groups of actors online see new technologies and come together with shared positions about the type of policies that governments should adopt to support or restrict the applications of a novel technology. -
Reducing Pesticide Use in China: Smart Solutions from Pesticide Labeling
July 2, 2023 - Project - This project is a sub-project of the Agriculture Green Development (AGD) PhD program of China Agricultural University and Wageningen University & Research. The overall objective of this project is to find effective measures to promote label effects on users' behaviour and to further the development of green or sustainable agriculture by rethinking the role of labels. -
Sustainable Labelling for Food: Consumer choice and Inner Mechanisms
July 2, 2023 - Project - The overall objective of this proposal is to find effective measures to promote label effects on users' behaviour and to further the development of green or sustainable agriculture by rethinking the role of labels. -
Assembly and Resilience of Pig Intestinal Microbiomes
July 4, 2023 - Project - Early-life microbiome development is key for piglet health. Here, we investigate the rules of engagement of the dynamic microbial colonization processes in the piglet’s gut with the use of synthetic communities. -
