Silk-collagen based pH-responsive triblock copolymers that self-assemble into hydrogels
August 3, 2012 - Project - We developed a new category of biologically produced protein block copolymers making use of genetic engineering. -
Redox Cofactor Regeneration in Micro-organisms
September 6, 2012 - Project - Biomass can be converted into chemical building blocks by anaerobic fermentation. Some products are dependent on the redox cofactor NADPH to deliver the necessary reducing power. NADPH needs to be continuously regenerated for the conversion to proceed. This project aims to enhance NADPH regeneration capacity to increase productivity and yield. -
PhD project Y. Teng
September 6, 2012 - Project - Amino acids from hydrolysis of biomass proteins are interesting feedstocks for chemical industry due to their functionalities. Electrodialysis could separate them, but modification of those with charge similarities is required. Modification should generate useful products so an in-situ product removal process could be built to save energy and process steps. -
Unravelling the mechanistic roles of CRISPR nucleases: more than a little mystery
November 13, 2018 - Project - Exploring the underlying biology of class 2 CRISPR-Cas prokaryotic defence systems leading to their potential exploitation. -
TARGETFISH - Targeted disease prophylaxis in European fish farming
August 28, 2012 - Project - TargetFish is a large collaborative project funded with 6 million euro by the European Commission 7th Framework programme (grant agreement no. 311993). The project will run for 5 years and started autumn 2012. -
Towards regenerative agriculture: the case of dairy and arable farming in the Netherlands
July 23, 2019 - Project - PhD project by Loekie Schreefel. Farm animals reared under a circular paradigm can play a crucial role in feeding humanity while decreasing the environmental impact. These farm animals would not consume human-edible biomass, such as grains, but mainly convert leftovers from arable land and grass resources into valuable food. The objective of this study is to develop pathways, by means of a ‘proof of principle’, towards regenerative farming in the Netherlands, with a focus on dairy and arable farming by 2050. -
Full scale demonstration of vacuum collection transport and treatment of black water
August 17, 2012 - Project -
Diana Zuluaga - Design of a decision matrix to assess GM crop impact on the detrital food web
November 2, 2012 - Project - Brassica crops and their main glucosinolate (GSL) hydrolysis products (Isothiocyanates) are being used for biofumigation as an alternative to chemical fumigation to reduce the occurrence of soil-borne plant pathogens. I am focusing on increasing the production of particular GSLs toxic for invertebrates that are vital to soil ecosystem functioning. -
