The effect of dietary protein on health in dairy cows

By Axel van Ruitenbeek

Reducing the protein (CP) concentration in feed of dairy cows is an effective strategy to reduce ammonia emissions.

In practice, there are still concerns on feeding less CP due to alleged effects on the production and health of the dairy cow. This project aims to look at the effect of short-term and long-term feeding of a low protein ration on the ammonia emission, and the variables parameters regarding health, metabolism and milk production of the dairy cow.
