Breeding wisely

Breeding is an important topic in the animal world, whether it is about companion animals, animals kept for food production or the conservation of genetic diversity. To facilitate all levels of this sector, three infographics are developed to explain the concept of inbreeding, its consequences and how to deal with this.

Centre for Genetic resources, the Netherlands (CGN) started with the development of the infographics for the Dutch animal breeding sector. The positive reactions and requests for publicaton and use of the infographics showed the relevance and knowledge gap about inbreeding. Soon after, and in collaboration with the European Regional Focal Point for Animal Genetic Resources (ERFP) network, the infographics are translated in English. More translations in other languages will follow.
