Exceptional stomachs examined during Fulmar Workshop 2013
This year’s annual workshop on the monitoring of plastics in Fulmar stomachs was held at IMARES on Texel 15-20 February.
Since the start of the international monitoring program of ingestion of plastics by Fulmars in 2002, annual workshops have been organised at IMARES on Texel. Participants bring birds and stomach samples, to calibrate methods of bird dissections in the laboratory and to share results of research in presentations and discussions. In all, 16 participants coming from Spain to Svalbard participated and were stimulated by the work together.
Interview "Eilanders"
On her way to Texel, Magdalene Langset of the Norwegian institute NINA in Trondheim, was spotted by a Dutch television crew making a series on people travelling to islands. This interview was broadcasted in the ‘Eilanders’ documentary of March 5.

During the workshop, which has a focus on dissections, we also opened two exceptional stomachs of German Fulmars. Ewan Edwards, PhD student at University of Aberdeen, made a nice video on what was found in them.
