Research plastic in Northern fulmars is a global example
During late May 2016, in Nairobi, the UN Environment Assembly meeting was held to discuss global environmental issues. In relation with marine plastic pollution, a new UNEP report was presented to the meeting: Marine plastic debris and microplastics: Global lessons and research to inspire action and guide policy change.
The report regularly mentions our fulmar marine litter research, which is presented in detail over several pages as a unique and valuable long term study. This publication is a reward for all involved, and certainly for the volunteers that collect dead fulmars for the research on their beach surveys. You may not always be aware of this on the beach, but you do reach out to the world!
