Fokje Schaafsma and Marin van Regteren are on the Antarctic expedition on the Japanese research vessel Kaiyo-maru. The goal of the trip is to better estimate the size of krill stocks in East Antarctica in international cooperation.

The Dutch contribution mainly concerns the addition of a net that fishes the upper water layer, whereas other nets and equipment do not collect data of surface water. Communication opportunities from the ship are unfortunately very limited. But now the ship was back in Australia for supplies, the opportunity to publish a blog with photos emerged.
