INREF projects

The Interdisciplinary Research and Education Fund (INREF) programme is the development oriented PhD research programme of the Wageningen University. The core of the INREF programme is formed by multi-annual research programmes in which various Wageningen Graduate Schools, international and national research institutions in the South participate.

The Executive Board approved the fourth phase of INREF, running for six years and starting in 2018. The fourth phase will accommodate both integrated research programmes and seed-money projects among which the following two seed- money projects:

  • EGYBIRD: Conservation and sustainable use of waterbirds along the Nile
  • Enhancing food and nutrition security in Sub-Saharan Africa through the incorporation of Mesoamerican food processing technology and other novel methods in the maize production chain
