Bert is a diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Public Health.
Bert Urlings (1959) is director Quality Assurance of VION Food Group and educated as veterinarian at the Utrecht University and received his Ph-D on processing of animal by-products into feed constituents in 1992 (Utrecht University).
He had different positions in scientific research on the safety of food of animal origin, first at Utrecht University from1986 -1998. Then he moved to the Animal Science Group of WUR at Lelystad, were he was managing food safety and product quality research from 1998 – 2002. In 2002 Bert went to the food industry as director Quality Assurance of VION Food Group. In this position he is responsible for the food safety, animal welfare and health policy of the group. He has several additional offices: Extraordinary Chair Supply Chain Management in Animal Production, Animal Sciences Group WUR (2004). Elected member of the Board of GlobalGAP (2005). Member of the Governing Board of Top Institute Food and Nutrition. Member of the International Technical Advisory Ctt of IFS.
During his professional career he served in several advisory functions of EFSA, the EU-Commission and the Dutch government, mainly during food safety crises.
