One of the important research areas of CGN is the improvement of efficacy and efficiency for preservation of genetic material in the gene bank.
Research aimed at understanding the changes that take place in and around the cells during freezing and thawing has already led to substantial improvements of cryopreservation methods for semen, embryos and oocytes of various species. In a number of areas, further improvements are needed and seem to be feasible.
