Estimation of between breed variability of milk quality in dairy cattle

Different milk components, recognized to have an influence on human health, are proven to be heritable within the Holstein Friesian breed. An important unanswered question is whether this extends to other breeds, and more specifically, whether other breeds are important additional sources of genetic variation related to healthy dairy products.

The major aim of this proposed project is to estimate genetic variability of milk quality related to human health, within breeds other than Holstein Friesian, and between breeds.
