From Vegetable Production to Healthy Food

Scientific co-operation between the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and Wageningen University (WU) has been going on for more than ten years. This is especially true in the field of plant sciences. An important aim of the INREF programme is to develop institutional capacity in China for research, training and extension in the areas of food production. The sub-programme for vegetable genomics aims at the production of healthy food for a growing population, produced in an environmentally sustainable and economically viable way.

Scope & objectives

The main objectives of the programme are:

  • Scientific co-operation between the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and Wageningen University (WU);
  • The development of institutional capacity in China for research, training and extension in the areas of food production;
  • The production of healthy food for a growing population, produced in an environmentally sustainable and economically viable way;
  • The establishment of a Plant Genome Analysis Laboratory.
