Honorary doctorate for Willem de Vos
Willem de Vos received Saturday February 8th a honorary doctorate from the Swedish University of Örebro. The following press release was published in the Swedish media.
Professor Willem M de Vos, Chair of Microbiology at Wageningen University, Professor of Molecular Microbiology, Helsinki University, Finland, and Finland Academy Professor of the Finnish Academy of Sciences, has been conferred an honorary doctorate at Örebro University, Sweden. The conferment took place during Örebro University’s 15th annual academic ceremony, which was organised around the theme of “Courage” and attended by some 600 guests.
Professor de Vos is among the most highly-cited authors in microbiology world-wide and is considered one of the most reputable researchers on the role of the human intestinal microbiota in health and disease. He has played an important role in the development of the new research environment Nutrition-Gut-Brain Interactions (NGBI) at Örebro University and his pivotal knowledge and competence will contribute greatly to NGBI’s future projects on gut-brain interaction.
Örebro University is a modern broad-based university with internationally prominent research. The university offers 800 courses, 60 undergraduate programmes and 30 postgraduate programmes, including professional degree programmes in medicine, psychology, law, business and economics, and social work.
Willem is very happy with the honorary doctorate: "It was a privilege and a pleasure to be in Sweden for this honorary doctorate event – I was particularly excited about the fact that this doctorate was related to the Faculty of Medicine. It will further strengthen our long standing collaboration on intestinal microbiota and health".
