Noémie - BSc Animal Sciences (in Sweden)

Noémie is currently on exchange for her minor at SLU, Sweden. The nature, the animals, the culture and the fact SLU is basically the WUR in Sweden, made her exchange choice easy.

I have always had the aspiration to study abroad somewhere during my educational career. I think it is very good for your personal development as you must learn to adapt to a whole new environment out of your comfort zone.

My name is Noémie, and I am currently on my exchange in Sweden, studying at Sverige Lantbruksuniversitet (SLU, Swedish Agricultural University) in Uppsala. I am in my third year of my bachelor’s Animal Sciences and I decided to do my minor abroad. I would like to share with you why I decided to go on an exchange, why I chose Sweden and what I am actually do at SLU.

I have always had the aspiration to study abroad somewhere during my educational career. I think it is very good for your personal development as you must learn to adapt to a whole new environment out of your comfort zone. It also encourages you to make new friends and explore a different culture. Moreover, it is interesting to discover how education works in another country. Therefore, I decided last February to sign up for the Erasmus exchange.

I chose SLU because I have always wanted to go to a Scandinavian country. The nature, its animals and the culture really appealed to me. Besides, I found the courses that are taught here very interesting. SLU is an agricultural university, similar to Wageningen, and I had heard very positive remarks about it. I also deliberately chose for a European country, and I also saw it as an advantage that Swedish people are very good in speaking English.

Now, I am following a course called: Animal Nutrition - Health, Behaviour and Welfare. It is a really fun master’s course that contains a combination between theoretical and practical education. I am in a class with only 18 students and most of them are internationals, which makes it very challenging. Besides university, I like to drink beers (very expensive ones sadly) and attend activities at either ‘The Nations’ in the city center or at the union, Ultuna Studentkår, associated to the study. I try to visit new villages and nature reserves every weekend, which can be a bit of a challenge due to the complex public transport and the surface of the country. This Saturday I will visit one of the thirty national parks in Sweden called, Färnebofjärden. And there is so much more to discover!

I would definitely recommend everybody to do an exchange or internship abroad if you have the possibility. I have only been here for one month and I am already very happy that I took this chance.

Hej då (see you)
