The REDD Offset Working Group (ROW) is releasing its draft recommendations on how the states of California, Chiapas and Acre can link together to develop the world’s first sector-based, jurisdictional REDD+ (Reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation) offset program within a cap and trade compliance system. The release of this report comes at a time whe 20% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions are from tropical deforestation and when international and national action to reduce deforestation rates are not happening fast enough to stabilize climate change. State and Provincial action is necessary to help.
The report & summary for policy-makers and the press release are now available at www.stateredd.org. Spanish and Portuguese versions of the report will be released in the coming weeks. We invite you to submit your comments on the draft recommendations. Comments will be accepted until April 30th.
