Develop strategies to improve sustainable logistics in beef and soy supply chains from Latin America to EU.
The SALSA project consist of various workpackages, some of which will be carried out at Wageningen University, others at one of the other 11 partners distributed along 9 countries in Europe and Latin America.
The PhD project aims for the development of solutions to improve the sustainability and market performance of selected Latin America-EU food chains, in particular the soya and beef chain. The tasks in this PhD project will be to:
- analyse current practices in the food chain related to logistics management, quality management and traceability systems;
- develop improvement scenarios (e.g. regarding logistics network design, inventory and transport management, traceability systems);
- develop multi-objective simulation or optimization models for sustainable design;
- assess the impact of the scenarios on various sustainability criteria using multi criteria analysis resulting in improvements for practice.
The project is conducted in collaboration with a team of researchers from Wageningen Univeristy and partner institutions from other countries. Part of the research will be conducted in Latin America.
