Two innovative WUR projects won €50,000 each through the “Boost Your Collection” initiative by the National Growth Fund program Npuls. The funding will help enhance the accessibility and availability of educational materials about information literacy and nutritional epidemiology.

Advancing Information Literacy e-learning

The first project, led by WUR Library’s Education Support team, focuses on making 13 Information Literacy e-learning modules fully accessible according to the WCAG 2.1 AA standard. Their content will also be updated. The modules are a part of most WUR bachelor's programmes and will be shared under an open license on the national open resources repository, edusources, so teachers nationwide can reuse them in their teaching.

This initiative is a collaboration with the national SHB/UKB working group on Information Literacy. The working group manages the edusources community on this topic. As part of the project, the working group will also develop procedures to keep these resources current and relevant. Once completed, WUR’s updated modules will join the edusources collection and be showcased within this community.

Expanding the reach of nutritional epidemiology

The second project, led by Dr ir Cora Busstra and Dr ir Lenie van Rossem (Human Nutrition and Health department), will upgrade e-learning modules on nutritional epidemiology. The modules will also be migrated from Lectora to the more versatile Xerte authoring software. In addition to this technical upgrade, the content will be updated to include the latest developments in the field. Like the Information Literacy modules, these will also be openly shared on edusources.

Nutritional epidemiology is important in nutrition studies but also relevant for many other disciplines. The team expects that the new modules will be a valuable resource for a wide range of teachers and students in higher education institutes in the Netherlands.
