Student testimonial
Annemarie - Management studies are really broad, but with Facility Management you acquire the same knowledge yet more focused on facilities
My background is a professional bachelor (HBO) in Facility Management, which I have obtained in Groningen. Then for a year I worked in the hospitality industry and I realised that I wanted to study again, because I missed some knowledge, some theory. That is why, I have decided to enrol in a university and having in mind the fact that at the private universities the masters are more expensive, I chose to do it in Wageningen, because in this case this is the only opportunity for a master in Facility Management.
Study programme
What I like most about Facility Management is that it is a broad field and you can work in a great number and variety of organisations as the work itself is about the secondary processes. Even though most of the courses in Facility Management here are quite general or others deal with agriculture, I have found some quite interesting consumer courses, which I like very much. In this sense, I can recommend them as they definitely broaden the knowledge and by experiencing this tailor-made programme you can choose the best for yourself. In addition to that, Wageningen offers excellent facilities- just today I realised that you can even scan here. What can I say about the teachers- some are motivated, but others really lack this passion in their teaching. Additionally, taking own responsibility in your activities, e.g. in the thesis, is a quite important skill that you develop here.
On the other hand, I might say that due to the fact that not many enrol in the Facility Management programme, you can easily find a job after your graduation. Management studies are really broad, but with Facility Management you acquire the same knowledge yet more focused on facilities. If you are about to come and study Facility Management at WUR, you have to be aware that you will get knowledge in a more scientific way. This is a place where theory is developed, while my professional bachelor was more practical and it was assumed that theory is always right. Speaking about the future, I would like to find a job in a big international company, where I can travel and in this sense I can work in the Netherlands, but I am also open to go anywhere else in the world.
About Wageningen I can say that it is a peaceful city; at times too quiet and small for me, but in general terms I like the atmosphere as it gives you the chance to be who you are and no one will judge you for that.
