Consumer food science in the Western Balkan countries

LEI participates in the EU project Focus Balkans.


The general objective of this project is to improve competence and understanding in the field of consumer food science in the Western Balkan countries. The results of the research will make an important contribution to public health and to consumer protection in the region.

As part of this project an Open Seminar was organized in Belgrade on Wednesday 2nd February. Results were discussed of research on fruits and food with health and nutritional claims. From LEI Karin Zimmermann and Siet Sijtsema participated in the meeting and presented and discussed their work about fruit consumption with all present stakeholders, that included academics, governmental agencies, NGOs and food industry representatives.
