Does caloric/dietary restriction leads to an increase in physical activity?
To provide a literature review about several questions related to caloric restriction and activity.
Background: When rodents are dietary restricted, they have to adjust their metabolism due to a decrease in daily energy intake. However, some studies report an increase in physical activity, while others report contradictory findings.
Questions: What is happening here? Is the data reliable, or are there other factors more important (i.e. diet, mouse strain)? Is there a general mechanism upon caloric or dietary restriction? How should we measure this?
Aims: To provide a literature review about several questions related to caloric restriction and activity (the exact topics will be determined together with the supervisor).
