On 24 April 2024, Frans Glissenaar will give a lecture on the life of Professor Thung (1897-1960). The lecture is part of the extended exhibition Fascinating Viruses at Special Collections. We're pleased to inform you that the exhibition is now also available online. In this news article, you'll find more information on the lecture and online exhibition.

Lecture

Professor Thung was a scientific pioneer in plant pathology, but especially in virology. He was the world's very first professor of virology, at the Agricultural College in Wageningen. Glissenaar recently published a biography 'Tussen de vier zeeën’ (Hilversum: Verloren, 2023) on Thung. In his lecture he will focus on Thung's background and academic development, his significance for virology and Wageningen.

Following the lecture, our curator will give you a guided tour of the 'Fascinating Viruses' exhibition, combined with a behind-the-scenes look at Special Collections of WUR Library.
