FLORES image database

Over a thousand rose varieties exist worldwide. If a breeder wants to obtain Plant Breeders' Rights for a new candidate variety, it has to be verified that this candidate variety is sufficiently different from all other exisiting varieties. Since the collection of varieties is far too large to fit in a greenhouse, this is not an easy task. An obvious solution is to use a digital (image) reference collection. This requires recording of the flowers in a standardized way. Automatic extraction of features can then further help the crop expert in finding similar varieties.

We have developed an internet database to find similar varieties.
