Functional modulation of adipose tissue by fasting.

To provide a literature review about one or more questions related to adipose tissue and fasting.

Background: Fasting is well known to induce lipolysis, but simultaneously, adipocytes also secrete signalling molecules to inform other organs about metabolic adaptations. However, these adaptations are not studied by many laboratories, and time course information (minutes – hours – days) leaves many questions open, if at all present.

Questions: What signalling molecules are secreted and in which order? What is the role of these adipokines? Is this similar in mice and men or production animals?

Aims: To provide a literature review about one or more questions related to adipose tissue and fasting (the exact topic will be determined together with the supervisor).
