HAP-20306 Human and Animal Biology, part II

Part II of the Human and Animal Biology Course continues on part I (EZO-10306). In part II the focus converges on the relation between anatomy, physiology, and function of different organ systems and how the latter interact to result in proper function and behaviour of the individual organism.

In part I the focus was on the basic principles of zoology, physiology and introduction to behavioural biology. In part II the focus converges on the relation between anatomy, physiology, and function of different organ systems and how the latter interact to result in proper function and behaviour of the individual organism. The course is organized in themes, in such a way that the organ systems are dealt with a cellular, tissue and organismal level. Each organ system is introduced by lectures explaining the anatomy and then the physiology and regulation of function. Then the organ system is further explored in practicals and self-study ICT-modules. In an integrative theme a case study and practical enable the students to explore the interrelations between organ systems with respect to their anatomy and physiology. Working in small groups, the importance of adaptations in anatomy and physiology of organ systems within/to the enviroment is explored, while learning to use scientific literature. Because of the impotance of the practicals and case study to process the knowledge obtained in the lectures, these are obligatory.
