Identification and control of soft drink quality by UV-disinfection

In the food industry, UV-disinfection can be one of the treatment steps to inactivate microbial activity. It has several advantages with respect to the (little) amount of by-products, conservation of taste, disinfection capacity and unit maintenance. In previous work, analytical expressions are derived which predict biomass inactivation.

There is a need to extend this work regarding observer and controller design , such that on-line model-based control is possible to further reduce energy costs, while ensuring the quality of the food product .
