Identification and control of water quality by UV-disinfection

For water treatment, UV-disinfection is one of the treatment steps recently introduced in Dutch water treatment. It has several advantages with respect to the (little) amount of by-products, disinfection capacity and maintenance. In water treatment, there are typically high throughputs needed due to large demands of clean water. In previous work, analytical expressions are derived which predict biomass inactivation.

There is a need to extend this work regarding observer and controller design , such that on-line control is possible to further reduce energy costs, while ensuring the water purity .
