Marine litter in the EU
The European Union is currently looking into the implementation of the so-called Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD). Litter in the marine environment is one of the elements incorporated into the issue of 'Good Environmental Status (GES) of the MSFD.
IMARES scientist Jan van Franeker has participated in the international Task Group that reviewed relevant knowledge and provided advise on possible approaches to GES.
The Litter Taskgroup Report has now been published by the European Union. A short summary of that report was prepared as a poster for the SETAC Conference in Seville, Spain.
