Mitochondrial motility and its role in mitochondrial functioning
To provide a literature review as well as a schematic overview that describes the process of mitochondrial motility and its relation to mitochondrial functioning.
Background: Mitochondrial dynamics is an important process that contributes to the maintenance of good mitochondrial functioning. Mitochondrial dynamics is defined as fusion and fission motility is one of the processes of mitochondria both involved in maintaining mitochondrial homeostasis. It has been recognized that these processes interact to maintain proper mitochondrial functioning.
Questions: How does mitochondrial motility contribute to good mitochondrial functioning? How can mitochondrial motility keep the mitochondrial network in optimal condition?
Aims: To provide a literature review as well as a schematic overview that describes the process of mitochondrial motility and its relation to mitochondrial functioning.
