New article: Cryptic genetic variation of expression quantitative trait locus architecture revealed by genetic perturbation in Caenorhabditis elegans

Similar genetic perturbations in different genetic backgrounds can cause a range of phenotypic outcomes within a species. Here we investigated how a genetic perturbation (gld-1 RNAi) influenced the transcriptome of different strains of the model organism C. elegans.

We found strain specific gene expression responses to gld-1 RNAi and we were able to statistically link those differences in gene expression to loci on the genome. Overall this study illustrates that studying gene expression in various genetic backgrounds in response to genetic perturbations can lead to the discovery of hidden regulator loci.
